Introduction

Please see below for the latest information regarding the Refurbishment of St. Mary's Church.

Heating

The pipe work for the under floor heating has already been installed. In addition, supplementary heating in the form of radiators have been installed in the nave and the chancel.

Two gas boilers have been installed in the old vestry and a gas pipe has been laid from the vestry to the church boundary with Church Road. British Gas Business will install a meter at the boundary later this week. Southern Gas Network is responsible for making the connection from the meter to the gas mains in Church Road. This should be completed this week.

Nave Floor

Most of the nave floor has been laid with Purbeck tiles. Following the installation of the radiators the stonemasons will finish flooring the nave.

Dais

Purbeck tiles will also be used for the surface of the dais. The steps of the dais will be finished with white Pentland stone.

Pulpit

The Street Pulpit has been installed in its new position on the side of the left hand column leading into the chancel.

Font

This will be installed in a central position in the nave when the flooring has been completed.

Electrical Installation

The installation of the new lighting system in the upper part of the nave and chancel is almost complete.

Chairs

Several people have donated money towards the purchase of the new chairs in memory of their loved ones or for special occasions. The church can reclaim tax for the donations through the Gift Aid Scheme. Details from Angela & Keith Teesdale or the church website www.haylinganglicans.co.uk/stmary.

Organ

The new organ is due to be installed during November 2010.

Certification

The architect issues certificates at specific stages in the development of the project. The first certificate of £28,000 was for the excavation of the nave floor. The second certificate of £113,000 was for the work done since the nave floor was excavated through to rebuilding the floor to prepare for laying down the new floor tiles. The latest certificate is for £91,257 is for the value of the work completed since the second certificate. Our Treasurer has paid these amounts promptly. The contractor's total valuation for the project is £301,970, but 5% of this total will be held back for six months as is usual for large projects. The above total valuation does not include furnishings.

Schedule

The project is 5 weeks behind schedule as a sub-contractor had to be replaced.

Grand Auction

A Grand Auction was held in the main hall of The Hayling College on Saturday 23rd October 2010. The Auction was well attended and raised a total of £2,400 towards the Refurbishment project. We are most grateful to The Hayling College for the use of their premises.
